Judie Tzuke is the epitome of the female singer-songwriter. Her wistful lyrics, sublime harmonies and hauntingly clear voice are testament to a career which has spanned four decades and continues to inspire a generation of fans with her unparalleled songwriting.
Early in her life, Judie’s family moved from Poland to England – while at school, she found an interest in writing poetry and setting it to music. In 1975, she met producer Mike Paxman and began regularly collaborating with him, including co-writing Judie’s haunting 1979 hit ‘Stay With Me Till Dawn’ which was released on Elton John's Rocket Records label and stayed in the UK charts for 16 weeks. Her debut album Welcome to the Cruise landed in the Top 20 of the UK Albums Chart.
Judie began the 1980s with her second album Sports Car hitting the Top 10, and as Elton John’s special guest on his American tour. Her third and final album with Rocket, I Am the Phoenix, and her first album with Chrysalis, Shoot The Moon, also went Top 20. Additionally, she undertook a whopping 57-date UK tour, culminating in a Glastonbury headline slot. Her appeal was further solidified with an acclaimed live album Road Noise recorded during two sell out nights at the Hammersmith Odeon.
Judie has collaborated with many musicians over the years, including Queen’s Brian May in 1992, and the likes of Lucie Silvas, Morcheeba and Tom Baxter in the 2010s. She released a collaborative album Woman to Woman with Beverley Craven and Julia Fordham in 2018, which included a co-written song with Beth Nielsen Chapman. For the accompanying UK tour, the trio were joined by Rumer, who has a songwriting credit on the new album with ‘Sanctuary’. In 2002, BBC Radio 2 conducted a poll to determine the top fifty British songs of the past fifty years, ‘Stay With Me Till Dawn' was at number 39. Welcome to the Cruise and Sports Car have both been certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry.
